Carmen Budilean is originally from Romania. She immigrated with her family to the province of Quebec at the age of eight. She holds a BA in Political Sciences, a Certificate in Women’s Studies from the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM) and a Master of Public Administration from l’École nationale d’administration publique. Since her bachelor’s degree, Carmen has been interested in human rights and political issues. Since 2010, she has worked and volunteered with many women’s organizations and political parties at the municipal, provincial, and federal levels. She has participated in the drafting of policies regarding women’s rights, women’s participation in politics, and policies related to immigration. Between 2015 and 2018, she was the Executive Director of the Green Party of NB, which allowed her to travel throughout the province and work with various local communities and organizations. More recently, Carmen Budilean spent the last two years in China where she taught and participated in research projects with the Centre for Canadian Studies at the Guangdong University of Foreign Studies. She speaks several languages, including Romanian, French, English, and a little bit of Mandarin.
