Imagine a newcomer woman navigating New Brunswick’s job market. Despite her qualifications and experience, she struggles to find opportunities that match her skills.

Now, picture an immigrant woman who, even after securing a job, feels excluded because the workplace culture and Human Resources (HR) policies don’t fully embrace her background and unique needs.

Throughout the Hiring, Recruitment, Onboarding, and Retention Stages, HR practices can create barriers such as:

  • Insufficient cultural competence in HR policies;

  • Lack of awareness of the unique barriers faced by newcomer women.

Inclusive and culturally aware HR practices can reduce these barriers. By recognizing the strengths and talents of newcomer women, employers can build a diverse and successful workforce where everyone thrives.

Objectives and Activities

IMvisible EMpowerment project (June 2024 – March 2027) aims to economically empower newcomer women in New Brunswick in their workplaces including women affected by gender-based violence.

1- Employer Training:

  • Implement intercultural HR best practices for interviewing, recruiting, onboarding and retaining newcomer women.

  • Raise awareness about the unique barriers newcomer women face in accessing and retaining employment.

2- Information and Orientation Sessions for Newcomer Women:

  • Provide practical steps for economic empowerment and awareness of rights.

3- Economic Empowerment Resources:

  • Offer storytelling resources for employers to understand newcomer women’s barriers and for newcomer women about economic empowerment.

  • Create a short film highlighting the employment barriers faced by newcomer women in New Brunswick.

By embracing inclusive HR practices, employers can bridge the gap for newcomer women, unlocking their full potential and enriching the workforce. Together, we can create an environment where all employees feel valued, respected, and empowered to succeed.
