Partnership formed for Syrian Refugee province-wide clothing drive
People wanting to support New Brunswick’s Syrian newcomers with donations of clothing and other household items will be able to do so all in one stop on Saturday, December 12.
The New Brunswick Multicultural Council and the New Brunswick Association for Community Living (NBACL) have formed a partnership to coordinate a province-wide clothing drive, which will take place simultaneously in three locations: Moncton, Fredericton and Saint John.
“An overwhelming number of people have contacted us, and our partner organizations in various municipalities, with offers to donate items to help our Syrian newcomers get settled,” says Alex LeBlanc, managing director of the Multicultural Council. “But none of these groups have the infrastructure to handle a large influx of donated goods.”
Fortunately, the New Brunswick Association for Community Living does. “NBACL’s partnership with Value Village will make it easy for people to give, and for our Syrian newcomers to get the essentials they need,” says Leblanc. “Our partner multicultural organizations are extremely excited and grateful that this collaboration with Community Living has developed,”
We’re calling on community groups to channel their efforts towards this drive.
For every bag of clothing and gently used household items donated in each location, funds will be contributed to the local multicultural association to help ensure that there are no financial gaps in services for Syrian newcomers.
The newcomers will also be able to visit their local Value Village and select the items they need to get started here in New Brunswick, for free!
